• Taxpayer Watchdog (2004-2008)
– As Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Barbara was responsible for
– Overseeing grant monies for Special Education and School Safety.
– She developed an innovative new District program for autistic students that
– Saved taxpayers’ $280,000.
– She currently is a member of the Antelope Valley Union High School District

• School Safety Advocate (2002-2008)
– Barbara implemented and enforced tough student disciplinary standards as Director of Behavioral Intervention for the Antelope Valley High School District.
– She Supervised the Safe Schools program to combat gang activity and campus crime. Involved in the Gang Violence Suppression efforts.
– She wrote and supervised two School Safety grants worth over $700,000

• School Principal (1997-2002)
– Principal at Quartz Hill High School.
– Also served as Vice Principal, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.
– Organized the International Baccalaureate Program at Quartz Hill High School.

• School Teacher and Coach (1964-1994)
– Taught Mathematics, Health and Physical Education at Quartz Hill High School.
– Science and P.E. Instructor at Piute Junior High School.
– Helped to establish girls’ sports at Antelope Valley High Schools.

• Deep Community Roots
– Resident of the Antelope Valley since 1964.
– 45 years of involvement with Antelope Valley Schools.
– Earned Masters’ Degree in Education from LaVerne University (1980)
– Involved as an officer and coach in local youth sports.
– Active member of Central Christian Church
– Family members from two generations have attended and graduated from Antelope Valley Union High School District schools
– Husband Walt served over 35 years in the Antelope Valley Union High School District as a teacher, counselor, and administrator
– Barbara and members of her family have dedicated over 110 years of service to the Antelope Valley Union High School District.
